Wanted: 30 men to Sing for Life partnered with Poynton Male Voice Choir.
Ready for a potentially life-changing new challenge? Sing For Life is a new project to invite 30 men to sing at a gala charity concert in Poynton to raise substantial funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
No experience is necessary – just a willingness to give it a go for the best of reasons and perhaps to step outside your comfort zone.
Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in England, and every pound raised by Poynton’s Sing For Life event will make a difference in Prostate Cancer UK’s fight to beat the cancer by developing its research into causes and treatment, to campaign to help more men survive with a better quality of life, to support men and their families, and to improve care.
There will be six weeks preparation for the Sing For Life event, with the men getting together to develop a concert programme each Monday at 8pm, starting on September 1 at Poynton Methodist Church. The concert will be held in collaboration with Poynton Male Voice Choir (PMVC) on Saturday October 11 at the church.
Everyone is in the same boat. It will be all about the journey. Whether the men stepping up to Sing For Life have a music background or not, they will be supported all the way by members of the male voice choir and guided by professionals, musical director Eileen Rigg and accompanist Kath Buckley.
“The invitation is open to any men who will commit to the venture,” says PMVC chairman Donald Sykes. “This is the best of causes and we feel confident they will enjoy the experience. It’s a great opportunity to learn to sing or develop a talent in a friendly atmosphere, with no judgment or auditions, and above all to make a difference for Prostate Cancer UK.
“PMVC have taken part in big choir events over the years, such as at the Bridgewater Hall, and they make a real impact. Poynton’s Sing For Lifers will have their chance to shine and they’ll be amazed by the result. This is a local effort and we hope that individual and business sponsors will get right behind the project.
