Blanka and Beatrix, from our twin town of Erd, visited Poynton between 26th and 30th June to practise their English, get to know Poynton and some of its residents and enjoy the Poynton Arts Festival.
The Twinning Association arranged some events for them from their base in an Airbnb on Park Lane. These included an afternoon tea with the mayor of Poynton, Cllr Peter Oakes, at Just Ice, and a visit to Macclesfield and the Silk Museum with one of our Hungarian residents, Zelma Hamilton-Fisher from Poynton High School. Blanka and Beatrix enjoyed learning about our local history and were impressed by the amazingly preserved past and legacy of silk manufacture. They also visited the belfry tower at St. George’s to hear the bell-ringing practice, and were guests of TAP at a dinner held at the Social Trattoria. A picnic lunch, canal-side visit, plus a trip to Tegg‘s Nose were also arranged for our guests. Otherwise, the young women found plenty of interesting things going on during the arts festival in Poynton and are now safely back in Erd, having greatly enjoyed themselves.
