The government has named seven out of the original twelve potential sites that could be developed as new towns in England and Adlington is no longer on this list.
When considering Adlington the government commented that it was “unlikely to offer the same degree of national significant economic growth” as other new town contenders.
However the government also noted that the site still presented “credible development opportunities” and existing housing programmes could be used to support development.
Local Labour MP, Tim Roca, who has supported the opposition to the development of Adlington as a new town, issued the statement below.
