Woodford Cricket Club needs our support and is crowd-funding post COVID

By Andrew Floyd on Mar 15, 2021

Woodford Cricket Club requires fundraising each year to support operational expenditure, coaching, equipment and periodic capital investment. The majority of our fundraising revenue comes from key fundraising events such as our annual Beer Festival and Bonfire night, together with surpluses from bar revenue and smaller club fundraising activities.

Our 2020 fundraising calendar was completely cancelled which meant we had to utilise all existing reserves to simply survive and be in position to have a chance of continuing.

We cannot be confident of hosting any large event fundraising until much later in the Summer, with restrictions still in place so we need a single large scale fundraising platform to concentrate our efforts and appeal to a wide audience.

JUNIOR CRICKET – ENCOURAGING POST LOCKDOWN ACTIVITY

It is widely reported that health and well being has been severely affected by Covid-19. The priority of the committee is to ensure the Club contributes to helping local families and young people find a way to get active, socialise and learn new skills as we carefully come out of restrictions.

We want to play our part in the Covid-19 recovery.

The club has held ECB club mark award for a number of years and has been part of the ECB all-stars program since year one of the national program. The All-star program is a way of young children playing cricket in a fun structured way.

We had ambitious plans to invest in our facilitates to expand the opportunity to children, young adults and senior players to join a friendly family focused club in the Woodford area but our financial position, as a result of Covid-19 has put severe limits on this.

THE PROJECT

In order to maximise the number of people who can access our facilities under Covid-19 restrictions we desperately need to re-activate our net practice area and open up additional space that is currently unsafe.

With funding impacting our ability to maintain them our two lane net facilities have deteriorated significantly and now need to be completed refurbished.

The cost of this is estimated at between £10,000 to £25,000 depending on the scale of works required.

We are looking to get a new base set, refurbish or replacement matting and new netting to both lanes. The run-up area will also receive some TLC.

If we can raise £25,000 we could get a completely new 2 lane facility.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

There are numerous ways you can support the campaign:

1) Crowdfund – pledge donations however small are what we ultimately need (suggest £5 minimum but we’ll take all contributions)

2) Undertake fundraising yourself and donate proceeds via here (sponsored walks / cake bakes / anything else)

3) Spread the word – via social media, in schools, with friends and family.

4) Volunteer to help with upcoming events

5) Offer up rewards to add to the campaign. Do you run a local business that can offer rewards to add to our campaign. These can be discounts / services / spend and save or anything else that might attract donors to help us.

We need all members, families and wider contacts to get behind this push as soon as possible so we can commit to the works.
