Primary school extension opens its doors
A £3.5 million extension to a primary school in Poynton has been unveiled.
Vernon Primary School has undergone refurbishment in all its buildings as well as having a ‘New Learning Environment’ extension.

The official opening took place on Friday, October, 15. Head teacher, Joanne Glimmerveen was on hand to cut the red ribbon, along with the school’s youngest pupil, Matilda Sturgeon (aged 4) the eldest pupil, Emily Knight (aged 11), Cheshire East Deputy Mayor, Councillor Roger West and Chairman of the Governors, Chris Robinson.
The new extension has taken 12 months to complete and was constructed by Willmott Dixon Ltd. The building, which is home to new classrooms, now has a shared entrance with the SureStart Children’s Centre.
Cheshire East Councillor Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member with responsibility for children and families, said:
“The school now encompasses all that is important to modern education; excellence in learning and 21st Century facilities. The new extension has been worth the wait and will cater for the children of Poynton for many years to come.”
Vernon Primary School Head teacher, Joanne Glimmerveen, added:
“The children and staff are delighted with their new, stimulating and high tech learning environment. We are all so proud to be able to offer the highest level of education in a fabulous state of the art school.”
