School Meals - Prices Frozen!
Cheshire East Council is freezing the suggested price of school meals. While individual schools have discretion to charge different amounts, most choose to follow the Council’s recommendation. This will help parents’ finances during the new school year.
Civic Hall Car Park
Several people have asked us about the recent resurfacing and other works done at the Civic Hall car park.
Although Waitrose have paid for this work as a condition of their planning permission, they have not taken over the car park. It is still owned by Cheshire East Council, and is open to everyone. It will definitely NOT be limited to Waitrose’s customers.
To ensure that spaces are available for people visiting the library, clinic and local shops, part of the car park will now be for short stay visitors. However, there will still be long stay spaces available. Eight weeks after Waitrose opens, there will be a review of how the car park is used and the availability of spaces.
Community Grants
Cheshire East Council regularly make grants to local voluntary groups, to support projects which will benefit both the people and the environment of the area. Meetings to decide on grants are held every three months. The closing date for applications for the next meeting is 1st October 2010.
Voluntary organisations bidding to receive grants must provide local services which encourage community action. Examples of the types of work which may receive a grant are projects to:
* identify community needs and implement solutions
* increase a sense of belonging
* involvement in and responsibility for your community
* help voluntary and community groups become more efficient and effective
Grants can only be used for the purpose outlined in the application, and any unspent money must be paid back to Cheshire East Council. Groups will be told of a decision in writing and, if successful, will be required to provide written feedback on how the grant money has been spent.
