Exciting Times at Vernon Primary!

Work to create a new state of the art school building at Vernon Primary School in Poynton is moving ahead with great momentum!

Building contractors, Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd, arrived on site on 22nd June 2009, with completion of the building work estimated at 52 weeks later!   As well as fantastic new school facilities, a new Children’s Centre will be located on the same site on Clumber Road.

Mrs Glimmerveen, Head teacher at Vernon, said “We have a fantastic team of builders on site and they are extremely keen to involve the children throughout the building programme.   For example, the children have viewing panels in the fencing so that they can watch the day to day activities from the playground, members of the building team are taking part in school assemblies to include launching a poster competition and promoting safety and the children will be invited for site visits!   Photographs are also posted to our school website so that the children can follow the wonderful progress being made.”

Mr Ivor Goodsite recently visited the school to meet the children!   Ivor Goodsite is a costumed character developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme to promote all that is positive about the UK construction industry to a young audience.

Mrs Glimmerveen added “The children were absolutely thrilled when Ivor Goodsite greeted them as they arrived at school.   Ivor took part in a school assembly which they thoroughly enjoyed!   These are exciting times at Vernon Primary.   We will all be extremely proud of our new facilities, which will bring huge benefits, not only to the whole school community, but also to the local and wider community.”
