Did you know this area used to have over 100 pits?

To show what the area around the museum looked like c1900 the volunteers at the museum have put in over 4,000 hours reconstructing the canal, collieries and village in great details.

NB  Over the winter 2010/11 they have extended the model down to what is now Poynton station.

Tiny, but perfect, model houses, railways and farmyards spread out before your eyes.  The Towers and pond are captured in all their glory and recently, hand-painted workers and animals have been added.

The volunteers who have worked so painstakingly on this are at the museum most weekends so do drop in to see them at work and to ask any questions.

There is no additional fee to see the Local History area and model, normal museum entry applies  - including free entry for under 12 years of age!

The museum is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 30 October when it closes over the winter period.
