On 20th September, Barry Wilson, Poynton resident and trustee of Friends for Leisure completed the 1050-mile cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats in aid of the charity.

Battling 50-mile-an-hour gusts of wind and rain for much of the journey, with only two days being dry, nevertheless, Barry had a marvellous time, enjoying the countryside through which he travelled and getting to know the people with whom he was riding. On one of the hilliest routes, in all, he climbed about 82,500 feet and wore out a set of brake blocks.
Barry decided that this challenge would be a great way to celebrate his 71st year and overcoming a serious illness, along with the opportunity to support Friends for Leisure, a charity close to his heart.
The charity offers everyday friendship and leisure opportunities to disabled children and young people, sometimes one-to-one friendships, sometimes organised activities, such as ten-pin bowling at Macclesfield. Anyone wanting to learn more, including about volunteering or registering a young person, can look at the website www.friendsforleisure.org.uk or phone 01260 275333. Well done Barry!
