Hazel Grove Carnival Today
By Claire Holden on Jul 14, 2017
With plenty of flares, afro’s and flowers, Hazel Grove Carnival will be looking back to the groovy 1970’s for this year’s theme in celebration of the popular community event’s 40th birthday.
To be held on Saturday 15th July, the carnival marks its landmark birthday with a spectacular parade featuring local businesses, community groups, schools and charities. The parade will start at 11.30am run from High Field Road, through Hazel Grove and along the A6 before finishing up at Torkington Park.
The day will also see a fun fair held at Torkington Park with exciting rides, lots of stalls and the lively food court will be back offering up tasty treats and refreshments from 10am.
Proceeds from the event will go to three local charities; Independent Options, Ronald McDonald House, and The Furniture Station.
The carnival came close to closing this year after a significant lack of volunteers stepped forward to help organise the event. However, chairwoman Tara Walters and vice chair Claire Jarvis were joined by Lucy Sawdon-Molloy of Independent Options as vice chair for the carnival, along with a number of new committee members.
Lucy commented: “I am delighted to join the committee as vice chair of Hazel Grove Carnival. Independent Options has built fantastic links with the carnival over the past few years, and this year we are strengthening that relationship with an integral role in this year’s event. This is particularly significant this year as not only is it Hazel Grove Carnival’s 40th birthday, but Independent Options is also celebrating its 40th birthday.
“With some big birthdays to celebrate and an exciting 1970’s theme, this year’s carnival looks set to be the grooviest Hazel Grove has seen to date!”
